Irene Sommers holds a MA from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She is a retired Professor of Humanities from Housatonic Community College in Literature, Film, and Art History. Her specialty is Art History—particularly the Italian Renaissance and French Impressionism. During her time at HCC she led student tours to museums throughout the United States, as well as to France, Italy, and the former Soviet Union. As a consequence she peppers her art history courses with tips and tricks for visiting museums and corresponding architectural sites. Before she became a professor she was an Administrative Editor for The New York Times Magazine Division and Manager of Public Policy for Bayer Pharmaceutical Corporation.
